On April 20th, we lost a truly talented artist. Well known for his hits such as “Wake Me Up”, “The Nights” and “Hey Brother”, 28-year-old Swedish artist, Tim Bergling (aka DJ Avicii), was found dead in the capital city of Muscat, Oman.
However, while the exact cause of death has not been released, police in Oman have recently ruled out any suspicious circumstances in the artist’s passing.
“Two post mortems were carried out,” Royal Oman Police said, and that there was “no criminal suspicion” surrounding Avicii’s death.
Avicii had been on holiday in Oman before he sadly met his demise, and his family have arrived in the country to return his body back to Sweden.
The news was truly devastating to fans of Avicii, and thousands of them gathered in central Stockholm over the weekend to honour him at Sergels Torg on Saturday, April 21st.
Also paying their tributes was the Utrecht church in the Netherlands, who played a trio of Avicii songs with the church bells, as follows, in memory of his monumental tunes, which truly shows that his music touched people from all walks of life.
Singer Nick Jonas also paid tribute to the musician by performing “Wake Me Up” during a concert. Tim Bergling was said to have had some health problems in the past, and Avicii quit touring in 2016 after having both his gallbladder and appendix removed following pancreatitis due to the effects of alcohol.
“I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform,” the musician said at the time. “but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.”
Other musicians around the world remembered Avicii as a “genius” who was “sensitive and humble”, including popular DJ Calvin Harris, who called him “a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do”.
“Nobody can deny what he has accomplished and done for modern dance music,” fellow musician Deadmau5 added after his passing.

Following his death, three of Avicii’s hit singles are set to return to the UK chart this week, including “Wake Me Up”, “Levels” and “Hey Brother”.
The 2013 hit “Wake Me Up” (also one of the UK’s best-selling singles of all time) is at number 13 in the midweek chart, while “Levels” is at 24, followed by “Hey Brother” at 32. His two studio albums, titled ‘True’ and ‘Story’ are also set to return to the top 40.
Little known to the public, Tim Bergling aka Avicii, had set out to expose human trafficking, read all about it here. However, mainstream news reports suggest that there was nothing suspicious about his death.
Nobody is quite sure what exactly happened to Avicii that night, but whether we do find out or not, he will be missed dearly, but also remembered as a truly amazing musician that made an amazing impact on the modern music industry. Rest in peace, Avicii.
