Demi Lovato Hospitalised Following Drug Overdose

Pop singer Demi Lovato has been rushed into hospital, following what is suspected to be a possible heroin overdose. This news comes just weeks after she revealed she had a relapse, doing so through her latest single ‘Sober’.

The singer has been consistently honest with her supporters regarding her ongoing battles with drug and alcohol addiction; including announcing her stint in a rehabilitation centre; which she admitted was unsuccessful. Although, she had been sober for around six years, due to her staying in a sober living home, the heroin overdose came as a bit of a surprise for everyone.

Demi Lovato rose to fame as the young star of the popular Disney movie, ‘Camp Rock’, and her career has continued to be a success ever since. She has appeared as a judge on American Idol, and registered seven top 20 singles on the Billboard Top 100.

Her personal struggles have been well documented, particularly since 2010 when her battle with bipolar disorder and self-harm came to light. She famously withdrew from a concert in the same year to receive treatment for physical and emotional issues; this came after she punched a performing dancer backstage. In response to her personal battles, she released her own book about the issues entitled Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year.

The previously mentioned song ‘Sober’ served as both a reveal of her relapse into drugs, as well as an apology to her fans, friends and family, delivered in a heartfelt manner. Throughout the track, the line “I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore” is repeated. The superstar is not without support however, after an outpour of tweets have flooded in offering words of consolidation for Demi Lovato and her family.

In 2017, Demi Lovato released a YouTube documentary in which she opened up and went more in-depth into her private issues. In it, she revealed that she first experimented with cocaine when she was just 17-years old; during the filming of Disney Channel show ‘Sonny with a Chance’, stating that she “loved it”. She also spoke of her family, explaining that her mother had always tried to steer her away from drugs, as addiction was rife within her family.

Her father, however, was perhaps a factor in her future spirals; with her saying: “’My dad was an addict and an alcoholic. I guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him, and he chose that over a family”.

The singer is currently being treated in an undisclosed hospital, unfortunately her condition is currently unknown. Everyone here at Brainstain wishes her a speedy recovery.
