DNC Co-Chair Keith Ellison Denies Domestic Violence Allegations

DNC co-chair Keith Ellison denies allegations he abused his ex-girlfriend, Karen Monahan, by dragging her off a bed by her ankles whilst screaming obscenities at her. Monahan’s son posted claims on Saturday night that he saw a video of the incident involving his mother, however, Ellison denies that such a video exists.

DNC co-chair Keith Ellison, who is up for Democratic slot for Attorney General of Minnesota on Tuesday’s primary, now faces these allegations which may hinder his electoral validity. Karen Monahan stood by her son in tweets on Sunday saying that Keith Ellison domestically abused her and that the video exists.

Keith Ellison denied all allegations against on Saturday night, and he is focused on Tuesday’s election to retain the Democratic slot for the state’s Attorney General.

The claims of abuse come as son, Austin Aslim Monahan, took to Facebook in a lengthy post which read: “In the middle of 2017, I was using my moms computer trying to download something and I clicked on a file, I found over 100 text and twitter messages and video almost 2 min long that showed Keith Ellison dragging my mama off the bed by her feet, screaming and calling her a ”f****** b*****” and telling her to get the f*** out of his house.”

“The messages I found, were mixed with him consistently telling my mom he wanted her back, he missed her, he knew he f***ed up and wished he could do things different, he would victim shaming, bully her, and threaten her if she went public. I text him and told him I know what you did to my mama and a few other things.”

Karen Monahan posted on Twitter, confirming what her son said to be true, “What my son said is true. Every statement he made was true. , you know you did that to me. I have given every opportunity to get help and heal. Even now, u r willing to say my son is lying and have me continue to leak more text and info just so others will believe him.”

Keith Ellison’s spokesman for his campaign said in response, “Karen and I were in a long-term relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being. This video does not exist because I have never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false.”

Minnesota Public Radio News reported on Sunday that it had reviewed more than 100 text and Twitter messages between Ellison and Monahan which showed the two communicating months after they breakup, including collecting belongings from his house.

Minnesota Public Radio News also stated that Monahan planned to write about their relationship, whereas Ellison warned her not to, calling it a “horrible attack on my privacy, unreal.”

Keith Ellison who is divorced, is a six time congressman, and a leader within the Democratic Party, and was considered a heavy favourite for Tuesday’s primary. However, these allegations of domestic violence may go some way to swing the vote, the other way.

State Rep. Debra Hillstrom, Ellison’s opponent in the primary, called Ellison’s allegations “troubling”. A former county attorney, Tom Foley, called on any existence of a video of the incident to be turned over to law enforcement for “immediate investigation.”

So, will Keith Ellison lose at the last gasp due to the domestic violence allegations? Will the video of the domestic abuse surface? Things haven’t been going well for Democrats in the primaries thus far, and we hope that it will be another Republican red wave across The United States of America in all the primaries that are yet to come.
